About LexNet

LexNet is a division of Lexington Electric System that offers broadband services through its fiber optic network. This network consists of over 1,700 miles of fiber optic cable and covers the entire LES service territory.

In 2021, Jeff Graves, former General Manager of Lexington Electric System, was directed by City Council to begin taking steps to apply for government grants to bring broadband internet and phone services to LES’ rural service territory.

In 2022, the State of Tennessee awarded LES $27.49 million in grant funding to design and build the fiber optic network to deliver these broadband services to LES’ customers. The grants available during this time were from a covid pandemic era federal legislation known as the American Rescue Plan. It was also around this time that LES began a partnership with Stuart C. Irby to provide a turnkey solution for this project. Irby’s solution would primarily consist of the design of the fiber optic network and overseeing the construction of the infrastructure. They would also provide support for our call center, network engineering, and FCC regulatory assistance.

In August 2023, construction officially kicked off, and the first spans of fiber optic cable were installed. By February 2024, the first LexNet customers were connected. Fast forward to September 2025: the entire fiber optic network is completely built, and all Lexington Electric System customers now have access to high-speed internet and phone services through LexNet.

LexNet now has a local team that provides customer service support at our call center, and field service technicians that operate and maintain the fiber network.

LexNet’s mission is to provide high quality, reliable broadband services to its customers across the LES service territory.
